And then I found a game that would make sure I'd have horrific nightmares of limb mangling fur covered mechanical monsters for the rest of my adult life. Welcome to "Five Nights At Freddy's".
The premise is you are the brand new night watchman at a Chuckie Cheese-esk pizza establishment, Freddy Fazbear's Pizza, populated by animatronic animals that play music for crowds of eager children during the day. Though during the night, they apparently 'act up/weird' as your trainer/voice mail/only friend likes to put it.
You sit in the security office from 12AM to 6AM watching the camera feeds, lighting up the blind spots right outside the doors that the motorized creatures like to sneak into, and closing the doors to keep said entities from getting to your soft mushy bits. Also the security office seems to be powered by only a car battery, since you have limited energy that is more quickly spent the more you use the various security features. And you don't want to be caught alone in the dark by using up all the available power.
So what makes this game so terrifying? The atmosphere. All the details that just builds a suspenseful setting that slowly crawls up your spine. The edge of fear in the nightly voice messages. The 'too quiet' feel of the security office. The grainy camera views. The dead eye stares of the various mechanized horrors. The sounds. Oh god the sounds. Everything slowly starts to eat away at your sanity and soon you are frantically flinging yourself around the room trying to keep from being forcibly crammed inside of a Freddy Fazbear suit (filled with sharp pointy spockets and gears) of your very own until your eyeballs pop out of the front of the mask.
Or if the adrenaline pumping through you veins let's you stay a step ahead of the robotic demons throughout the work week, you'll beat the game and receive your check for less the minimal wage. Hooray! Also, there is a bonus sixth night for those up to the challenge and then a customizable seventh night.
I fully recommend this game, especially if you are a fan of horror games. That goes double for the fact that it's available on Steam and various other locations for about $5.00!
If you are still not convinced/want to see it in action/enjoy us screaming in terror, check out the various videos below of us playing the game for ourselves.
